an existing single storey dwelling with a small kitchen somewhat detached from the garden, and lacking a dining space that could relate to its outside spaces also. the brief was to arrive at a concept that addressed the houses shortcomings and which would allow the owners to stay in their preferred location as an alternative to relocating to a bigger dwelling. the project involved the reconfiguration and enlargement of the kitchen space as well as the creation of a dining space, allowing both to relate to the garden. also, an expressed playroom was created adjacent to the garden. the opportunity was also taken to add a master bedroom with ensuite facilities over the kitchen addition, to replace the smaller one in the existing roofspace. the additional elements contrast with the existing bungalow aesthetic, expressed clearly as new components which improve the functionality within the house and its connection to outside.
